About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services is hiring a relief veterinarian to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role offers flexible online scheduling, no minimum or maximum shift requirements, weekday and weekend shift options, and the ability to set a rate for each shift. Veterinarians may continue practicing outside their Petco shifts, with no agency fees.

The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports on-time departures. Trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, with equipment including digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. Hospital relief shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

New Jersey state bid rates average $136–$170 per hour; rates may vary by clinic location and shift duration. The position includes a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Ability to provide Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At Vaccination Clinics, perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform all shift functions permitted by applicable state licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• Comply with local, state, and federal mandates.
