About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The position offers flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend hours. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees.

The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and support on-time departures. Trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgery, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts at Vetco Total Care hospitals. Petco also provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, and a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at Vetco Total Care full-service hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures as appropriate.
• Perform shift functions permitted by applicable state-specific licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• Comply with local, state, and federal mandates.
