About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians can choose shifts through flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees.

The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians leaving on time. Trained, experienced staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements. Veterinarians also receive a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units.

Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospitals have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites with heated hydraulic surgery tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform all shift functions permitted by applicable state-specific licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• Comply with local, state, and federal mandates.
