About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians opportunities to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to choose shifts, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend options. They set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports on-time departures, while trained staff handles operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located in Petco stores, with some operating from advanced mobile van units.

Vetco Total Care hospitals offer preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Licensed and trained hospital staff support care delivery. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
• Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
• A DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Meet applicable state licensing requirements for all shift functions, including performing blood draws and administering vaccines.
• Comply with local, state, and federal mandates.
