About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services is hiring a relief veterinarian to work at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Vaccination clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals offer preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, with equipped surgery suites and diagnostic tools. Hospital staff support operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts at Vetco Total Care hospitals.

Relief veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling, choose from weekday and weekend shifts, and set their own rate for each shift. There is no minimum or maximum shift requirement, and veterinarians may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports leaving on time. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all functions of the shift, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals, depending on the relief shift.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform the functions of the shift in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
