About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Flexible online scheduling lets veterinarians choose shifts that fit their lifestyle. There is no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend hours are available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Relief veterinarians receive monthly clinic updates and a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in advanced mobile van units.

Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospitals have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
• State veterinary license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures as applicable.
• Comply with local, state, and federal mandates.
