About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services is hiring relief veterinarians to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role offers flexible online scheduling with no minimum or maximum shift requirement, weekday and weekend shift options, and the ability to set a rate for each shift. Veterinarians may continue their practice activities outside Petco shifts and do not pay agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and support timely departures, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Veterinarians receive monthly clinic updates and a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care; locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. These hospitals have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call duties.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions in accordance with applicable licensing and local, state, and federal requirements.
