About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Relief veterinarians can schedule shifts online, choose from weekday and weekend hours, and set their own rate for each shift. There is no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and veterinarians may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts without agency fees.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units.

Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. They have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. Hospital shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call duties. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, and offers a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
• A DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions permitted by applicable state-specific licensing, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
