Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. These locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, using equipment that includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts. Relief veterinarians can schedule shifts online around their lifestyle. There is no minimum or maximum shift requirement, weekday and weekend hours are available, and veterinarians set their own rate for each shift. Veterinarians may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts and do not pay agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and support timely departures, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements. Veterinarians also receive a 15% discount on Petco products and services.
