About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend hours. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practicing outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Petco also provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Most are located within Petco stores, with some operating in advanced mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide a full range of services, including preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
State veterinary license in good standing.
Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

Provide veterinary care at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals, depending on the relief shift.
At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
Perform shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration, in accordance with applicable state licensing.
Comply with local, state, and federal mandates.
