About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Relief veterinarians can schedule shifts online, choose weekday or weekend hours, work as many or as few shifts as they prefer, and set their own rate for each shift. They may continue practice activities outside their Petco shifts, and there are no agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Veterinarians receive a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. These locations are primarily in Petco stores, with some operating from advanced mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic surgery tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Licensed and trained hospital staff support care delivery; there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
- State veterinary license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
- For relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals, DEA registration in good standing.
- Ability to provide Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At full-service hospitals, provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, as appropriate.
- Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable licensing requirements and local, state, and federal mandates.
