Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Flexible online scheduling lets veterinarians choose shifts that fit their lifestyle, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and a variety of weekday and weekend hours. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and do not pay agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. The role also includes access to a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Locations are primarily within Petco stores, with some in mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospitals have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts. Relief veterinarians must hold a veterinary license in good standing and appropriate state-specific licenses to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration. DEA registration in good standing is required for full-service Vetco Total Care hospital shifts. Veterinarians must provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy and comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
