About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend shifts available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees.

The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports veterinarians in leaving on time. Trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Clinic updates, policy changes, and product announcements are shared through a monthly newsletter. Veterinarians receive a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Locations are primarily inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and anesthesia monitoring. Hospital relief shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
