Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located in Petco stores, with some operating from mobile vans. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, using equipment that includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and fully equipped surgery suites. Hospital shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work. Relief veterinarians can schedule shifts online and choose from weekday and weekend hours, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts required. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Petco provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements. The role includes a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Washington state bid rates average $122.00–$153.00 per hour; shift rates may vary by clinic location and shift duration.
