About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians shifts in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The position provides flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts and weekday and weekend options. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and are not charged agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on care. Petco also provides a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. These clinics are primarily located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals offer preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and anesthesia monitoring. Hospital shifts do not involve overnight or emergency on-call work.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide care that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions in accordance with applicable licensing and local, state, and federal requirements.
