About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services seeks relief veterinarians to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Veterinarians can choose shifts through flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum shift commitment, and set their own rate for each shift. They may continue practicing outside their Petco shifts, and no agency fees apply.

The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and support on-time departures. Trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, and have equipment including digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites. Total Care shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call duties. Veterinarians receive a monthly newsletter with clinic news and updates, plus a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional Liability Insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, perform services such as basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Meet state-specific licensing requirements for shift duties, including performing blood draws and administering vaccines.
• Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
