About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services relief veterinarians can work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role offers flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend shifts. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practicing outside Petco shifts, and are not charged agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and support on-time departures, while trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Veterinarians receive monthly updates about clinic news, policies, and products, and a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Most are located within Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units.

Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Facilities include digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Licensed and trained hospital staff support care delivery. These shifts do not involve overnight or emergency on-call duties.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• A DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At Vaccination Clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Comply with local, state, and federal mandates.
