About The Position

Vetco, a division of Petco, is seeking independent veterinary contractors to provide accessible, high-quality veterinary care. Relief veterinarians select their shifts through flexible online booking, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts. Weekday and weekend hours are available, and veterinarians set their own rate for each shift. They may continue other practice activities outside Vetco shifts, with no agency fees.

Vetco Vaccination Clinic shifts involve wellness examinations, preventive vaccinations and medications, heartworm testing, and microchip insertion. These clinics do not provide surgery, emergency care, or sick visits. Trained clinic staff manage operations and transactions and assist with safely restraining pets. Clinics are located inside Petco retail locations.

Vetco Total Care Hospital shifts may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Veterinarians coordinate with the area medical director before shifts to review case comfort levels. Hospitals have digital patient records, a surgical suite, Butterfly IQ+ handheld ultrasound imaging, digital and dental X-ray, Vetology Radiograph Interpretation AI, on-site labs, and licensed and trained hospital staff. No overnight or emergency on-call work is required. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports timely shifts.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
• State veterinary license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Nice To Haves

• DEA registration in good standing is preferred for full-service Vetco Total Care hospital relief shifts.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during selected Vetco relief shifts.
• At vaccination clinics, provide wellness examinations, preventive vaccinations and medications, heartworm testing, and microchip insertion.
• At Total Care hospitals, provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures as appropriate to the veterinarian's comfort level.
• Coordinate with the area medical director before Total Care hospital shifts to review the comfort level of cases.
