About The Position

Petco is seeking relief veterinarians to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to select shifts that suit their lifestyle, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift and may continue practice activities outside their Petco shifts without agency fees. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Relief veterinarians receive a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, and a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgery, and dental procedures. Hospital facilities include digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. Hospital relief shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work.

New York state bid rates average $150.00–$187.00 per hour; shift rates may vary by clinic location and shift duration.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
• State veterinary license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide care that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
