About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Vaccination clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Total Care hospitals offer preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, supported by trained hospital staff and specialized equipment. Total Care relief shifts do not include overnight or emergency on-call work. Veterinarians can schedule shifts online with no minimum or maximum shift requirement, choose from weekday and weekend hours, and set their rate for each shift. The appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and experienced staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Veterinarians may continue practicing outside Petco shifts and do not pay agency fees. Petco also provides clinic updates through a monthly newsletter and a 15% discount on Petco products and services.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform shift functions in accordance with applicable licensing requirements and local, state, and federal mandates.
