About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services is seeking relief veterinarians to work at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. Total Care hospitals offer preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and anesthesia monitoring. Relief veterinarians can use flexible online scheduling to select shifts that suit their lifestyle. There is no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend hours are available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practicing outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on care. The role has no overnight or emergency on-call shifts at Vetco Total Care hospitals. Petco provides a monthly clinic newsletter and a 15% discount on Petco products and services. New Jersey state bid rates average $136–$170 per hour; shift rates may vary by clinic location and shift duration. The position is located in Butler, New Jersey, with relief shifts available across Vetco locations.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a state license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.
- NC Supervising Veterinarian Agreement; Petco will provide it.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary services during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics and/or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
- At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
- At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
- Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal requirements.
