About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians opportunities to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts required and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift, may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, and pay no agency fees.

An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports timely departures, while trained staff handle clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Petco provides monthly updates about clinic news, policies, and products, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement; they do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care. These clinics are primarily located in Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Their equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and anesthesia monitoring. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and these hospitals do not require overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

• Hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a state license in good standing.
• Have appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• For relief shifts at Vetco Total Care hospitals, hold a DEA registration in good standing.
• Provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during scheduled relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
