About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians flexible shifts in two settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. Online scheduling lets veterinarians choose shifts that suit their lifestyle, with no minimum or maximum shift requirement and weekday and weekend hours available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift and may continue practicing outside their Petco shifts without agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, while trained staff handle operations so veterinarians can focus on patient care. Veterinarians receive a monthly newsletter with clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Clinics are primarily located in Petco stores, with some operating from advanced mobile vans.

Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgery, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic surgery tables and full anesthesia monitoring. Licensed and trained hospital staff support care delivery; there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
• State veterinary license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including the ability to perform blood draws and administer vaccines.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
