About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services relief veterinarians may work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role offers flexible online scheduling, no minimum or maximum shift requirements, weekday and weekend hours, and the ability to set a rate for each shift. Veterinarians may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, with no agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and supports on-time departures, while trained staff handles clinic operations so veterinarians can focus on care. The role also includes monthly clinic updates and a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency care, or illness care. Most are located inside Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units.

Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Hospital equipment includes digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and surgery suites with heated hydraulic tables and full anesthesia monitoring. There are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing is required for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during scheduled relief shifts.
• At Vetco Vaccination Clinics, perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At Vetco Total Care hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Perform shift functions in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
