About The Position

The Relief Salesperson services an average of 40-60 accounts, some twice or more per week, by ordering, delivering, and stocking shelves, displays, and display racks. This role involves handling over 150 different types of products and requires the individual to be well-groomed, organized, self-motivated, possess good customer skills, and be capable of generating new sales. The job involves ensuring customers are stocked with product, that product is rotated properly, and that product is displayed according to company specifications. The salesperson must manage their time effectively to service customers on schedule, set up and maintain displays, maintain good customer relations, order appropriate amounts of product, and generate new sales through interaction with retailer decision makers. Additional duties include loading and unloading the route truck, reporting maintenance needs for the delivery truck, participating in meetings regarding new products or promotions, and maintaining the cleanliness of the truck and equipment. Accurate, neat, and timely completion of paperwork is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous full-time work experience required.
  • Good math skills required.
  • Effective communication skills: reading, writing, and verbal.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Can obtain DOT medical certification.
  • Dependable-predictable attendance.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and frequently lift from 4 lbs. to 30 lbs.
  • Push and pull 2-wheel cart loaded with product up to 150 lbs.
  • Climb ladders and steps.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous working experience in retail grocery or direct store delivery desired.
  • Some college and computer skills desired.
  • Previous truck-driving experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assure that the customer is stocked with product, product is rotated properly, and that the product is displayed or merchandised to company specifications.
  • Manage time to service customers on schedule and at appropriate times.
  • Setup and maintain displays.

  • Housekeeping - keeps truck neat and tidy and other equipment (handheld/printers) clean.
  • Complete paperwork accurately, neatly, and timely.
  • Effectively manage your time, to service on a regularly scheduled basis approx. 40-60 accounts per week.
  • Operate route truck efficiently, courteously, and safely.
  • Work alone at a steady pace with limited supervision.
  • Develop and maintain good customer relation, and service.
  • Display product according to company specifications.
  • Stand, sit, bend, stoop, crouch, and kneel.
  • Use hands and arms outstretched from body and overhead continuously.
