About The Position

Hood Industries, Inc. is seeking a Sawmill Relief Operator at their sawmill located in Waynesboro, MS. This role involves learning and operating multiple types of equipment within the sawmill. The ideal candidate will have experience in manufacturing and be able to cross-train on production and mobile equipment to provide coverage for absences. The position requires adherence to safety, housekeeping, and environmental guidelines, and the ability to learn and apply work processes to increase productivity and reduce waste. Communication with other departments and management is essential, as is maintaining a clean and safe work area. Knowledge of various sawmill equipment is expected.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED preferred.
  • Ability to understand, clearly communicate, and follow all safety rules and policies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly utilizing hand, eye, and foot coordination.
  • Able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
  • Experience in a sawmill, manufacturing, or other industrial environment preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. throughout the work shift.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of sawmill equipment and machinery such as: Sorter, Trimmer, Edger, Curve Saw, Debarker, Stacker, and Head Rig.

Responsibilities

  • Cross-train on production and mobile equipment to provide coverage for vacations, absences, etc.
  • Promote a safe work environment by adhering to safety, housekeeping, and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Learn and perform multiple operator functions within the sawmill to expected performance levels.
  • Learn to apply work processes and understand how they lead to increased productivity and reduced waste of useable products.
  • Maintain communication with other departments, management, and employees and notify them of any problems and/or concerns that may restrict the efficiency of production.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
