About The Position

This role requires flexibility as operations change based on customer needs. The Nutritional Relief Operator will train and work on all equipment in the department periodically to ensure timely customer requirements are met. Responsibilities include performing sanitation on equipment, infrastructure, and grounds, monitoring quality assurance controls (e.g., product analysis, weight checks, code date verifications), and recording/maintaining accurate written and electronic information. The operator must understand and follow safety, GMP, and food safety policies, operate equipment safely and efficiently, inspect equipment for maintenance needs, and assist in troubleshooting. Effective communication and interaction with colleagues, customers, and management are essential. The operator will learn and operate all equipment in the Nutritional Yeast Department and cover open shifts as scheduled. Overtime and non-routine hours with a changing weekly schedule may be required.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow instructions, learn and ask questions.

  • Mechanical aptitude and trouble-shooting skills.

  • High school diploma or 3 years experience in similar position.
  • Ability to be forklift certified.
  • Ability to wear respiratory protection.
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Write simple correspondence.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Perform basic mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Perform simple mathematical analysis using the units of money, weight, volume, and distance.
  • Apply common sense and be able to follow supervisory instruction and plant policies and procedures.
  • Solve standardized problems with few or no variables.
  • Use learned experience to solve more detailed and complex problems.
  • Follow Red Star Yeast’s facial hair policy.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing and packaging processes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Cover open shifts as scheduled.
  • Work non-routine hours and follow a changing weekly schedule.
  • Respond for replacement coverage on a 36-hour call-in basis.
