About The Position

SLCS is currently seeking a relief Housing Stability Worker, available to work flexible schedules for Project Home, a Housing First Program. This role supports participants in the community who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability to assist in securing and maintaining housing. This position supports all age demographics, with a focus on coaching and mentoring individuals in housing readiness, stability, safety, security and connection to community resources to promote independence. The Housing Stability Worker will be culturally responsive and will utilize a strength based, trauma informed and restorative model of care, focusing on supporting participants where they are at in their service of care. Successful candidates should be prepared to work with individuals at different stages in life and may have to work with program participants struggling with mental health, physical health, substance use and various challenges. You will work directly with individuals to support establishment of personal goals that focus on housing stability, and connect individuals to community services to support achievement of their goals. You will be responsible for advocating on behalf of participants and liaising with other services (i.e. emergency shelters, community organizations, health care services, income supports, as well as the legal system) to coordinate care for individuals. Comfort in attending individual units, encampments and shelters is necessary as supporting individuals where they are at is at the core of the program. Strong written, verbal and social skills is essential in interacting with many personalities we support on a daily basis. The role requires strong administration, organizational and time management skills. The candidate will be able to efficiently and objectively write case notes and follow procedures in updating participant files. Knowledge of Crisis Prevention and Intervention and Suicide Intervention are critical for this role. In addition to the housing stability focus of the position, you will be responsible for the safety and security of the individuals, co-workers and community during your employment. You will work collaboratively with other team members and community partners to complete administrative functions for the program.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education from an accredited institution or working on completion of post-secondary education
  • Intermediate First Aid / Standard First Aid & CPR with AED - Level C
  • Valid Full G Class Driver’s License and access to reliable vehicle
  • Knowledge of Crisis Prevention and Intervention
  • Knowledge of Suicide Intervention
  • Clear Police Check with vulnerable sector screening

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using HIFIS 4.0
  • Proficiency in both official languages of Canada
