Reliability Test Engineer

Base Power Company•Austin, TX
•Onsite

About The Position

Base is hiring a Reliability Test Engineer to find the limits of its hardware before products reach the field. The engineer will design and build test setups, automate them, run electrical, mechanical, environmental, and reliability campaigns, and turn test data into reports that inform design decisions. The role is part of Base’s hardware reliability and test team, which conducts mechanical, electrical, environmental, and abuse testing from component to full system; tracks fleet performance in the field; investigates significant failures; and feeds fixes back into product design. Base is a startup, so priorities and responsibilities may evolve with business needs. The company works in person and describes its work pace as not a 9-to-5, with the team all-in on its mission to rebuild the grid.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on test engineering experience with electromechanical products that run embedded firmware.
  • Strong knowledge of DAQ systems, including sensor selection, signal conditioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Python and/or LabVIEW for instrument control, test sequencing, and data analysis.
  • A track record of tests that define mechanical, electrical, and reliability limits.
  • High standards for documentation and the ability to produce reports that tell a clear story with data.

Nice To Haves

  • Battery, power electronics, or high-voltage testing experience.
  • Experience with environmental chambers, thermal cycling, vibration, or HALT/HASS.
  • Fixture design in CAD and PCB design for test boards.
  • Statistical analysis and reliability modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Run validation across electrical, mechanical, environmental, and reliability testing.
  • Build test setups, including designing fixtures and PCBAs, selecting sensors and supplies, and automating test equipment, environmental chambers, and DAQ systems.
  • Lead root-cause and failure analysis on issues found during testing.
  • Automate analysis and anomaly detection across large test datasets.
  • Write clear, high-signal reports that drive engineering design decisions.
  • Track how the product fleet performs in the field, root-cause important failures, and feed fixes back into design.
