About The Position

Serve the Tufting/Warping Departments by operating the automated blade block sharpening equipment. Maintain flow of blade block assemblies both to and from the Dalton area carpet facilities. This role involves performing general maintenance, routine inspections, and supporting other technicians. The technician will be responsible for operating a box truck to deliver and pick up blade blocks, performing preventative maintenance on grinding equipment, and ensuring the quality of blade blocks.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for the past 3 years.
  • Ability to communicate to other employees both in speech and in writing.
  • Ability to ensure the work environment is free of harassment and that employees feel free to express problems and concerns.
  • Ability to assure compliance of all corporate policies.
  • Ability to drive the Box Truck.
  • Knowledge of safety practices - LOTO, Confined Space, PPE, PIT, Fall Protection, Hoisting & Rigging and Hot Work.
  • Proficiency in calculator and computer applications for work order documentation and parts requisitioning.
  • Understanding of measurement units.
  • Basic math skills including arithmetic and conversion of measurement units.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and make simple sketches.
  • Basic understanding of tools and their proper uses.
  • Knowledge of precision alignment techniques for indirect coupled elements.
  • Knowledge of power transmission component types, terms, operation, and maintenance.
  • Novice troubleshooting of mechanical systems (Basic Troubleshooting of those components technician is assigned to).
  • Use of various wrenches, hammers & other hand tools.
  • Use of support equipment.
  • Use of Gauge Parts.
  • Abide by and enforce plant safety rules and regulations.
  • Know evacuation routes and gathering location.

  • Understands the basics of equipment operations to support familiarization of facility and operations equipment, including regular maintenance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Operate automated blade block sharpening equipment.
  • Maintain flow of blade block assemblies to and from Dalton area carpet facilities.
  • Execute general maintenance (GM) activities in office areas, bathrooms, building and grounds.
  • Perform routine inspections and setups, including Safety & Environmental inspections, utility meter readings, and repetitive parts changes.
  • Support Reliability Techs C-A with job-site preparation, cleanup, parts and tools collection/delivery, PIT operation, painting, greasing/lubrication, and confined space/hot work watch.
  • Drive a box truck to pick up, load, and deliver blade blocks to tufting facilities.
  • Manually feed and remove trays into/from the system.
  • Transport tray carts from dock doors to storage, staging, and grinding locations.
  • Swap to new blades when flagged by the machine.
  • Change grinding wheels.
  • Change lubrication and filters.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on grinding equipment and auxiliary equipment.
  • Follow job procedures for operating the blade block grinding station.
  • Escalate issues related to blade block processing.
  • Follow all safety, LOTO, APM, or other related procedures.
  • Keep the work area clean.
  • Enter work orders into the CMMS system.
  • Submit process improvement ideas.
  • Attend departmental meetings and training.
  • Manage time and plan to process blade blocks and deliver finished sets to plants in the Dalton area.
  • Ensure quality of blade blocks by checking sharpness, blade distance, tightness in block, and for damaged fasteners, blocks, or blades.
