About The Position

Serve the Tufting/Warping Departments by operating the automated blade block sharpening equipment. Maintain flow of blade block assemblies both to and from the Dalton area carpet facilities. This role involves understanding equipment operations, performing general maintenance, executing routine inspections and setups, and supporting Reliability Techs C-A with various tasks. A key responsibility is the operation of a box truck to deliver blade blocks to tufting facilities. The technician will also be responsible for the quality of the blade blocks, ensuring sharpness, proper blade distance, tightness in the block, and checking for damage. The role requires adherence to all safety procedures, including LOTO, APM, Confined Space, and Hot Work. Additionally, the technician will be responsible for entering work orders into the CMMS system, submitting process improvement ideas, and managing time effectively to meet processing and delivery deadlines.

Requirements

  • Understand the basics of equipment operations.
  • Ability to support familiarization of facility and operations equipment, including regular maintenance activities.
  • Ability to execute general maintenance (GM) activities.
  • Ability to execute routine, defined inspections or setups.
  • Ability to collect and record key operational data.
  • Ability to perform repetitive parts changes, including those requiring precision measurement and part quality checks.
  • Ability to support Reliability Techs C-A in job-site preparation and cleanup.
  • Ability to collect, deliver, and return parts and tools.
  • Ability to operate PIT (Powered Industrial Truck).
  • Ability to perform painting, greasing/lubrication.
  • Ability to act as Confined Space & Hot Work Watch.
  • Ability to deliver/pickup blade blocks to tufting facilities.
  • Ability to drive a box truck to pick up, load, and deliver blade blocks.
  • Ability to manually feed trays into the system.
  • Ability to manually remove trays from the system.
  • Ability to transport tray carts from dock doors to storage, staging, and/or grinding location.
  • Ability to swap to new blades when flagged by the machine.
  • Ability to change grinding wheels.
  • Ability to change lubrication and filter.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance on grinding equipment and other auxiliary equipment.
  • Ability to follow job procedures related to operating the blade block grinding station.
  • Ability to escalate issues appropriately.
  • Ability to follow all safety, LOTO, APM, or other related procedures.
  • Ability to keep area clean.
  • Ability to put work orders into CMMS system as needed.
  • Ability to submit process improvement ideas.
  • Ability to manage time and plan to process blade blocks and deliver finished sets to plants in the Dalton area.
  • Ability to ensure quality of blade blocks as they exit the unit.
  • Ability to communicate to other employees both in speech and in writing.
  • Ability to ensure the work environment is free of harassment and that employees feel free to express problems and concerns.
  • Ability to assure compliance of all corporate policies.
  • Drive the Box Truck.
  • Knowledge of Safety practices - LOTO, Confined Space, PPE, PIT, Fall Protection, Hoisting & Rigging and Hot Work.
  • Proficiency with Calculator and Computer applications – work order documentation, parts requisitioning.
  • Understanding of Measurement units.
  • Basic math skills to include Arithmetic and Conversion of measurement units.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and make simple sketches.
  • Basic understanding of tools and their proper uses.
  • Knowledge of Precision alignment techniques for indirect coupled elements.
  • Knowledge of Power transmission component types, terms, operation, and maintenance.
  • Novice troubleshooting of mechanical systems (Basic Troubleshooting of those components technician is assigned to.).
  • Familiarity with various wrenches, hammers & other hand tools, support equipment, gauges, and parts.
  • Abide by and enforce plant safety rules and regulations.
  • Know evacuation routes and gathering location.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for past 3 years.

  • Deliver and pick up blade blocks to tufting facilities using a box truck.
  • Manually feed and remove trays into/from the system.
  • Transport tray carts from dock doors to storage, staging, and/or grinding locations.
  • Swap to new blades when flagged by the machine.
  • Change grinding wheels.
  • Change lubrication and filters.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on grinding equipment and auxiliary equipment.
  • Follow job procedures for operating the blade block grinding station.
  • Escalate issues appropriately.
  • Follow all safety, LOTO, APM, and other related procedures.
  • Keep the work area clean.
  • Put work orders into CMMS system as needed.
  • Submit process improvement ideas.
  • Attend periodic departmental meetings and training.
  • Manage time and plan to process blade blocks and deliver finished sets to plants in the Dalton area.
  • Ensure quality of blade blocks (sharpness, blade distance, tightness in block, damaged fasteners, blocks, or blades).
