About The Position

This is a proficient level position in the Mechanic Reliability Department to perform highly diversified duties to repair and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment. This includes building maintenance, machinery repairs, welding, pipefitting, and mobile mechanics. The role requires the ability to lead other team members and perform tasks independently.

Requirements

  • Proficient knowledge of industrial equipment and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Repair, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Bearings, Lifting/Rigging, Welding, Pipe Fitting, etc.
  • Basic papermaking process knowledge and how areas of responsibility affect production.
  • Must be capable of carrying on-call phone and working weekends.
  • Must satisfy requirements of Mechanic 2 position.
  • No significant performance/ attendance infractions within the last 6 months.
  • Must be able to perform all tasks in the subsequent positions.
  • Must be able to perform the essential physical requirements for each position to be considered trained.
  • Must know, understand, and follow all applicable model programs plus general plant, department, and job specific safety rules.
  • Must be able to protect your own personal safety and the safety of others who may be in your work area.
  • Must adhere to applicable responsibilities within the plant’s emergency response program [First-aid, fire, evacuation, etc.).
  • Must understand the EAM and Safety database (completed VWIs, SOCs, LOTOs, Confined Space Entries, locate parts in EAM, locate work orders, enter crafts man feedback, enter a Work Request).
  • Must have a basic understanding of the USG RPM model program (storeroom operation/parts check out, work orders).
  • Must have basic welding repair and fabrication knowledge.
  • Must be familiar with the basics of maintenance and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Must know intermediate maintenance terminology; basic understanding of the plant layout and major equipment (basic bearing terminology, pump terminology, roll terminology, motor terminology, plant locations).
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of industrial rigging techniques and devices including crane operation (having completed multiple picks).

Nice To Haves

  • Possessing basic knowledge of Laser Alignment, Vibration Analysis, Infrared Thermography, carpentry, pipefitting, ect. and the ability to employ it where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform highly diversified duties to repair and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment.
  • Lead other team members and perform tasks independently.
  • Perform routine mechanical repairs without need for supervision.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot and complete repair of routine/non-routine equipment with limited supervision, assistance, and leadership (including bearings, refiner plates, pulper work, pump changes, roll change).
  • Employ knowledge of Laser Alignment, Vibration Analysis, Infrared Thermography, carpentry, and pipefitting where applicable.
  • Operate all machine shop and Mobile equipment (grinders, drill press, band saw, bobcat, hose machine, fork trucks, Arial lifts).
  • Perform basic welding repair and fabrication.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Understand and use equipment manuals for troubleshooting.
  • Complete Mechanic 3 Competency Requirements.
  • Actively participate in safety program components such as Safety huddles, USG stretching program, BBS, Take 5’s, incident investigations, inspections, and submission of safety improvement ideas.
  • Maintain proactive good housekeeping practices.
  • Prevent damage to company equipment and materials and report damages, incidents, and injuries immediately.
  • Complete LEAD training and all applicable advanced training courses.
  • Collaborate with direct supervisors and department leadership as well as Safety Team representatives.
  • Understand surroundings and potential dangers within work areas.
