Reliability Lab Engineer

onsemi•Tempe, AZ

About The Position

onsemi is seeking a Reliability Lab Engineer to support reliability testing, device qualification, and lab operations for Gallium Nitride (GaN) and Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductor technologies. This hands-on role involves designing test circuits, boards, and platforms; operating stress-test equipment; and analyzing stress data to help accelerate adoption of high-efficiency power semiconductors. The engineer will develop and execute reliability testing, maintain lab equipment and documentation, analyze device behavior and failure trends, and collaborate with product development, design, process, and quality teams on root-cause analysis and corrective actions. Testing and documentation are conducted with attention to applicable JEDEC, AEC, and AQG standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in semiconductor reliability testing, test hardware design, failure analysis, or device characterization.
  • Proficiency in PCB design and schematic capture tools such as Altium, Cadence, or OrCAD.
  • Solid understanding of semiconductor physics, power electronics, and reliability principles, especially for GaN and SiC wide-bandgap devices.
  • Hands-on familiarity with lab equipment, benchtop instrumentation, and reliability stress tools.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and programming tools such as Python, MATLAB, JMP, or Excel.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as JEDEC and AEC-Q101.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset, ability to thrive in a dynamic lab environment, and excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop custom test circuits, load boards, and hardware test platforms for reliability testing of GaN and SiC devices.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot reliability lab stress tools, including HTOL, ELFR, HAST, and high-voltage/high-temperature testing equipment.
  • Execute stress test protocols to evaluate device reliability, ruggedness, and long-term electrical stability.
  • Collect, clean, and analyze test data using statistical analysis tools to identify failure mechanisms and degradation trends.
  • Collaborate with Product Development Engineering (PDE), design, process, and quality teams on root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Document test setups, run logs, calibration records, and equipment maintenance, ensuring compliance with JEDEC, AEC, and AQG industry standards.
