Develop reliability test procedures and specifications by using failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) to identify design- and process-specific failures, use cases, detection methods, and performance evaluation criteria. Design experiments to characterize user behavior and inform test specifications, analyze instrumented study data to quantify subjective user experience, and prepare test plans and analyze test reports. Use Weibull statistical analysis, stress-strength analysis, acceleration factors, user perception and behavior, and test-to-field correlation to assess anticipated field exposure and quantify risk. Present tests, results, and risk assessments to cross-functional and leadership teams. Research technologies and failure mechanisms, including machine-learning image-processing techniques to quantify subjective user perception. Guide design and work with diverse groups to improve product reliability. Investigate reliability test failures, determine root causes, and drive mitigations. Guide failure analysis using characterization techniques such as SEM, TEM, FTIR, and CT. Collaborate with design teams to develop failure mitigations, applying mechanical engineering and materials science expertise to assess solutions and the feasibility of fixes before implementation. The position is based in Cupertino, California, and may also be located at various unanticipated locations throughout the United States. The stated schedule is 40 hours per week.
