Reliability Engineer

Bosch Group•Lincolnton, NC

About The Position

The Reliability Engineer improves equipment availability, performance, and lifecycle reliability through structured problem-solving, data analysis, and predictive maintenance. The role identifies chronic losses, reduces unplanned downtime, and implements long-term corrective actions to improve Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and reduce Mean Time To Repair (MTTR). Using Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), the engineer develops risk-based, cost-effective maintenance strategies aligned with Bosch’s TPM objectives. The position collaborates across functions to improve equipment reliability, production stability, and total cost of ownership. Responsibilities also include maintaining FMECA and risk assessments; developing predictive and preventive maintenance strategies; analyzing equipment performance and costs; leading root-cause investigations and corrective actions; documenting and reporting reliability improvements; and sharing best practices while coaching supervisors and technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Post-graduate degree in Reliability Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), Shainin Red X, or equivalent certification.
  • Knowledge or experience applying FMECA and risk management within an RCM framework.
  • Ability to develop and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Ability to analyze reliability KPIs, maintenance and production data, failure costs, and downtime.
  • Ability to lead structured problem-solving and root-cause analysis processes.
  • Ability to collaborate across Maintenance, Production, and other functions and communicate findings through reports and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) for critical assets and systems.
  • Evaluate failure consequences and criticality to prioritize maintenance actions within the RCM framework.
  • Update risk assessments based on operational learnings and ensure compliance with Bosch reliability standards.
  • Participate in new MAE projects to apply FMECA as standard practice in equipment design.
  • Develop and improve preventive and predictive maintenance strategies based on RCM principles.
  • Implement predictive maintenance techniques, including vibration analysis, thermography, and oil diagnostics.
  • Optimize preventive maintenance frequencies using equipment performance trends and reliability data.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance System Specialist to ensure updated strategies are reflected in SAP PM.
  • Support new equipment commissioning and Early Equipment Management (EEM) by validating maintainability and reliability design requirements.
  • Monitor reliability KPIs, including MTBF, MTTR, and OEE-related losses.
  • Review maintenance and production data to identify chronic failures and performance degradation.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance and Production teams to validate root causes and set improvement priorities.
  • Use reliability platforms such as QRS to identify bad actors and track equipment performance.
  • Lead structured problem-solving processes such as 5Why, Fishbone, Shainin, or 8D for high-impact failures.
  • Facilitate cross-functional workshops to eliminate recurring issues and standardize best practices.
  • Drive complex corrective maintenance initiatives and ensure sustainable corrective actions are implemented.
  • Track and verify corrective-action effectiveness and document and share learnings.
  • Analyze failure and downtime costs to identify technical or process-related cost drivers.
  • Evaluate maintenance and spare-part data to connect failure impact with total cost of ownership.
  • Recommend design, process, or maintenance-strategy changes to reduce reliability-related costs.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance System Specialist to incorporate analytical findings into maintenance plans.
  • Document reliability analyses, lessons learned, and improvement actions using standardized templates.
  • Prepare monthly reports and dashboards for TEF3 management and global reliability networks.
  • Share best practices across departments.
  • Coach and mentor supervisors and technicians on reliability principles and knowledge transfer.
