About The Position

The Reliability Engineer leads reliability initiatives aligned with site and business needs, tracking work through to support production, quality, health, safety, environmental, and cost improvement targets. The role works across departments to establish a reliability-centered maintenance approach by communicating equipment criticality, upcoming projects and initiatives, forecasts, and improvement progress. The position develops and maintains predictive and preventive maintenance programs, analyzes equipment history and reliability performance, and drives continuous improvement through KPI analysis, failure investigations, criticality assessments, maintenance strategies, and bad actor programs. It also owns specified aspects of the site CMMS, coaches maintenance staff, supports mechanical integrity and process safety activities, and serves as the maintenance team’s primary interface for capital projects. The engineer may also complete expense and capital projects related to equipment reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical or industrial, with 3–5 years of chemical or resin plant experience; alternatively, 6–10 years of maintenance and reliability experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of process equipment such as reactors, pressurized and atmospheric tanks, condensers, heat exchangers, evaporators, agitators, and pumps.
  • Experience with mechanical integrity codes and standards.
  • Familiarity with implementing or executing mechanical integrity, PdM/PM, RCFA/FMEA, equipment maintenance strategy, and bad actor programs.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and climb in a manufacturing environment while wearing appropriate PPE, including a hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toed shoes.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn specialized CMMS software.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical and control systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills across multiple organizational levels.

Responsibilities

  • Establish predictive (PdM) and preventive (PM) maintenance programs and ensure plans are completed on time and as scheduled.
  • Review and prioritize PdM and PM feedback, investigate issues, and enter work requests for repairs or further action.
  • Review equipment PdM and PM history for trends and take corrective action based on results.
  • Analyze equipment maintenance and repair history, identify ways to correct and prevent recurring issues, implement corrective actions, and track improvement savings.
  • Drive reliability process improvement through KPI tracking and analysis, root cause failure analysis (RCFA), failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), equipment criticality analysis, equipment maintenance strategies, and bad actor program development.
  • Own the site CMMS equipment naming convention and functional location structure, PdM/PM task standardization and consolidation, and spare parts strategies.
  • Coach the maintenance team on PdM/PM tasks and skills, and work with the Maintenance Supervisor to identify reliability training opportunities.
  • Embed reliability-centered maintenance practices in maintenance activities, including PSM, MI, MOC, CI, and 5S principles.
  • Work with site engineers to develop and execute a mechanical integrity program consistent with industry and AkzoNobel standards and best practices.
  • Serve as the primary maintenance-team interface for capital projects.
  • Promote equipment standardization and maintainability; determine criticality, complete FMEAs, and develop maintenance plans and spare parts strategies for implemented projects.
  • Occasionally complete expense and capital projects related to equipment reliability.
  • Contribute to MOC and PSM processes.
