Apple Inc. is hiring a Reliability Engineer in Cupertino, California, and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. The role develops reliability test procedures and specifications by conducting failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), identifying design- and process-specific failures, use cases, detection methods, and performance evaluation criteria. It also designs experiments to characterize user behavior and inform test specifications, and analyzes instrumented study data to quantify subjective user experience. The engineer prepares test plans, analyzes test reports, and performs Weibull statistical analysis to assess anticipated field exposure and risk using stress-strength analysis, acceleration factors, user perception and behavior, and test-to-field correlation. The role presents tests, results, and risk assessments to cross-functional and leadership teams; researches technologies and failure mechanisms, including machine-learning image-processing techniques for quantifying subjective user perception; and guides design work to improve product reliability. The engineer investigates failures during reliability testing, determines root causes, and drives mitigations. The role guides failure analysis using techniques such as SEM, TEM, FTIR, and CT, and collaborates with design teams to develop feasible mitigations using mechanical engineering and materials science expertise. The position is 40 hours per week. The stated base pay range is $150,400–$225,300 per year, depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
