About The Position

Reliability engineering works at the intersection of design, test, systems, and commercial teams to predict, validate, and optimize when and how our product will fail in the field. We’re looking for a hardware engineer comfortable with data analysis automation to help scale ESS reliability by building custom, integrated python tools, implementing reliability studies, and getting hands-on with testing of parts like HV battery packs, devices, and electronics. The subject matter is highly teachable, and the ideal candidate is an enthusiastic learner with strong engineering first principles. This is a unique opportunity to learn a rarely-taught subject area in a fast-paced startup environment, and is a great stepping-stone for aspiring reliability, test, or design engineers.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals in your area of study
  • Strong understanding of python, data analysis, and Git usage in small repositories
  • Ability to work quickly and leverage AI tools in a fast-paced startup environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hands-on hardware testing and test automation
  • Experience with high voltage batteries, power electronics, or similar hardware
  • Exposure to hardware reliability first principles

Responsibilities

  • Build custom data pipelines in python to connect and analyze dozens of reliability tests and calculate progress against product requirements
  • Replace off-the-shelf software to automate physics and statistical analyses that predict component lifetime in fatigue and environmental stresses
  • Collaborate with design and test engineers to analyze field usage, implement accelerated life calculations, and optimize test conditions
  • Perform trade and sensitivity studies that guide commercial contract decisions by predicting the maintenance and downtime of new projects or hardware designs
  • Build, automate, and execute tests related to your subject area of experience
  • Diverse opportunities to deep dive into research papers, literature studies, failure physics, failure analysis, etc. depending on your specific interest and background

Benefits

  • The hourly rate for this role is $30/hr.
  • Join us to thrive in a supportive environment while making a meaningful impact in the energy sector!
