Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, behavioral or social/human services, or a closely related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience in criminal justice or a court environment.
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to four (4) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
  • Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification or ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Experience conducting interviews to obtain personal and/or financial information.
  • Experience communicating effectively, orally and in writing, with people in emotionally charged and stressful situations.
  • Experience communicating decisions regarding the approval or denial of benefits or services and the explanation of laws, rules, or regulations.
  • Experience with a high volume of data entry using a personal computer to access and input information and complete various tasks.
  • Experience working in a court system, criminal justice, corrections, or other legal environment.
  • Must meet all applicable background and criminal history checks and be of good moral character.
  • Must complete the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States within three days of hire.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Determine pretrial release options for defendants by applying Oregon Revised Statutes, Chief Justice Orders, Presiding Judge Orders, and using risk assessment tools.
  • Research and prepare reports for judges on adults in custody who are ineligible for release, including compiling criminal and FTA history using LEDS and OJD systems, verifying residence and employment, and determining current and past probation or parole status.
  • Complete risk assessments.
  • Verify information given and release adults in custody who meet criteria.
  • Determine who, upon release, is most likely to appear in court, is not likely to commit new offenses, and does not pose a threat to the community or themselves.
  • Attend court proceedings to testify to recommendations for release and other matters.
  • Identify and prepare files that need to be added on dockets and correspond with other court staff.
  • Complete financial affidavits to determine eligibility for court appointed counsel.
  • Prepare, disperse, and collect affidavits of indigence for adults in custody set for arraignment.
  • Research and apply information gathered from multiple sources and maintain contact with people who are under pretrial conditional release.
  • Ensure appearance at court and verify accuracies of court dates for court reminders.
  • Perform clerical and computer work, including preparing new files, typing, filing, and reviewing court orders.
  • Respond to questions from judges and court staff about pretrial release and court appointed counsel.
  • Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.
