About The Position

The Relationship Manager (RM) role encompasses both client-facing business development and portfolio management responsibilities. This position is ideal for individuals in smaller lending teams who can handle both functions, or for those in larger teams looking to transition from Portfolio Management to Senior Relationship Management without immediately taking on the full loan goal targets of an SRM. The primary function is to identify and acquire new loan clients while also managing an existing assigned portfolio.

Requirements

  • U.S. College graduate with a major in related fields.
  • 5-7 years of commercial lending and banking experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of lending regulations and credit/underwriting practices.
  • Strong loan negotiation experience (rates, terms, collateral requirements).
  • Previous underwriting experience in the relevant area of commercial lending.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Bank’s credit policy, risk management, underwriting requirements, and loan servicing.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of commercial and specialty group banking products and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to cross-sell banking products and services.
  • PC proficiency.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently to structure loans and/or lines of credit.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-production, and team environment.
  • Excellent time management skills and accustomed to working with deadlines.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and accountability for decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of Bank personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Mandarin or Cantonese) is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and bring new clients to the Bank, meeting annual new loan commitment/outstanding goals.
  • Negotiate and structure primary loan terms with clients, circulating concept memos if needed before issuing term sheets/LOIs.
  • Collaborate with underwriters, loan assistants, and support staff to prepare Credit Commitment Reports (CCRs) for new loans, renewals, amendments, and annual reviews.
  • Present CCRs to the appropriate approval authorities, taking ultimate responsibility for the content.
  • Review loan documents for accuracy, whether internally prepared or by outside counsel.
  • Oversee the loan closing process with loan assistants and support staff, managing the client experience.
  • Monitor and manage the credit quality of the assigned loan portfolio, ensuring proper risk rating.
  • Review client accounts and portfolios to identify, evaluate, and address potential credit quality issues, aiming to minimize risk and loss.
  • Ensure compliance with Bank, regulatory, and credit requirements, prioritizing customer service and meeting client timeframes.
  • Assist in mentoring and coaching junior officers and loan staff.
