About The Position

Farmers Mutual Hail (FMH) is seeking a qualified undergraduate student for their 2027 Summer Internship Program. This paid internship is located in West Des Moines, IA, and runs from May 17 to August 6, with the possibility of becoming a full-time position. The internship is designed for students majoring in Risk Management, Business, Accounting, Finance, or related fields, who possess strong communication and Microsoft Office skills. Interns will gain experience in reinsurance rate studies, underwriting, financial analysis, client communication, and project assistance.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled as a junior or senior at an undergraduate college or university.
• Majoring in Risk Management, Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred.
• Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are necessary.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
• Analytical, problem solving, and attention to detail skills are highly desired.
• May 2027 graduates will not be eligible.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes and evaluates a company for rate study and presents the analysis.
• Learns and assists in the Underwriting process for direct and broker accounts.
• Works with financials and annual statements.
• Communicates with clients.
• Assists with ongoing team projects.
• Works on other projects as delegated by manager/mentor.
• Participates in internal meetings to share and develop strategy and knowledge.
• Attends a broker visit.
