About The Position

This position assists the licensed physical therapist and occupational therapist by completing a variety of outpatient medical and clinical support duties. Performs general pre- and post-treatment preparation and clean up, assists with patient care activities under the direct supervision of a physical therapist and occupational therapist. Performs inventory management and ordering, record keeping, database management, reception and clerical duties in a busy work environment, including duties listed in the Physical Rehabilitation Technician Manual. Must maintain patient confidentiality and fulfill all required competency criteria as required by the department.

Requirements

Must have a High School Diploma or GED
Must have one (1) year experience in a hospital or rehabilitation clinical setting
A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas:

Strong customer service skills
Demonstrates strong communication skills – written, verbal, computer/email
Possession of high ethical standards and no history of complaints

Work and its demand vary in the amounts of sitting, standing, walking and bending.
Incumbent must have ability of prolonged sitting standing, walking, bending, maintaining balance, reaching, frequent twisting, and occasional driving, climbing, kneeling, and crouching.
Work will include assisting the therapists/patients with safe mobility, guarding, exercising, and transfer/positioning of patients.
Involves light to heavy lifting; requires the ability to carry items such as patient charts, exercise equipment, and medical supplies.
Must be able to lift, push and pull continuously up to 10lbs, frequently up to 50lbs and occasionally over 100lbs.
Must have ability to manipulate clinical and non-clinical items such as belts and latches for patient safety and positioning.
Must have ability of far, near, color vision, depth perception, seeing fine details, hearing normal speech, hearing overhead pages and telephone use.
Must have bilateral hand manipulation of simple and firm grasping, fine manipulation and use of keyboard.
The employee independently initiates and carries out routine assignments, handles problems and deviations in the work assignments in accordance with policies and procedures.
Work is periodically checked and reviewed in terms of the overall efficiency of services provided in the clinic and to patients; to ensure compliance in accordance with established priorities and procedures.
Must have ability to cope with high levels of stress, make decisions under high pressure, cope with anger, fear, hostility of others in a calm way, manage altercations, concentrate, handle a high degree of flexibility, handle multiple priorities in stressful situation, work alone, demonstrate high degree of patience, adapt to shift work, and work in areas that are close and crowded.
May be exposed to infectious diseases, frequent exposure to chemical agents and occasional exposure to dust, fumes, gases, extremes in temperature or humidity, hazardous or moving equipment, unprotected heights, and loud noises.

Responsibilities

Prepares and cleans clinical treatment areas before and after patient care.
Ensures designated clinics are stocked with appropriate forms, equipment and supplies at all times.
Monitors equipment and clinic areas for malfunctions and/or safety issues.
Maintains cleaning and maintenance records and/or temperature logs as appropriate for treatment areas and equipment.
Maintains adequate stock of supplies and equipment in proper storage areas in an organized manner.
Completes regularly scheduled inventories of equipment and supplies.
Orders supplies and equipment and tracks status of orders and communicates with Purchasing and General Services staff as needed to fulfill orders in a timely manner.
Performs routine walk-through of the Rehabilitation Department, verifying that area is kept clear, clean and organized, that all equipment is clean and accessible, and that all supplies are stocked and organized.
Maintains organization and back stock of the storage and work room spaces and outdoor storage unit(s) as well.
Coordinates with and/or assists therapy staff with inventory needs and management using spreadsheets and/or inventory management programs.
Assists therapy staff with patient care activities including prescribed exercises, fitting and adjusting equipment, and wound care treatment and dressing application under the supervision of a therapist/pathologist.
Assists therapy staff in compiling educational displays and handouts.
Tracks regularity of changes for informational bulletin boards for Rehabilitation Services in the hospital, facilitating timely turn-over of displays.
Carry out the plan of care for the patient as supervised and assigned by the licensed therapist.
Abides by department training requirements and direction provided by licensed therapist(s).
Responsible for electronic health records data entry pertinent to patient service role prior to duties as assigned or where it is appropriate to place.
Ensure proper PPE is always worn while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respiratory or higher, if available), and eye or face shield.
Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly.
Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee and external customer satisfaction.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
