About The Position

This position will provide services in the Ambulatory Care Department as assigned. The incumbent will work under the supervision of a Licensed Audiologist or Physician. The Audiology technician performs a broad range of administrative and clinical functions to facilitate the work of the Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP). Audiology technician will be responsible for setting up and cleaning examination room, maintaining supply stock in between exams, and recording data under direct supervision of the provider or LIP.

Requirements

Tech I: High School Diploma and GED
Tech II: Associate’s degree in communication sciences
Tech I: Must have six (6) months of prior direct patient care experience
Tech II: Must have one (1) year of prior Clinical Audiology Technician experience
Tech I: Must maintain current valid certification of the following throughout employment: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association (AHA)
Tech I: Audiology Technician certification from an accredited ASHA Certified Audiology Assistant Program (C-AA) or an Otolaryngology Technician certification from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), if none must obtain within nine (9) months from date of hire.
Tech II: Must have a current, valid Audiology Technician certification from an accredited ASHA Certified Audiology Assistant Program (C-AA) or an Otolaryngology Technician certification from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS)

Nice To Haves

Work requires prolong periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending, talking or hearing and reaching with hands and arms. This position requires extended use of hands to finger, handling and feeling as well as intermittent pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Agility and ability to lift to 25 pounds of heavy and/or disabled patients for an extended period. Must also be able to hear alarms on equipment, client calls and instructions from physicians and our department staff. Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. This position also requires prolonged repetitive motion of both feet, both hands, grasping with simple/light and firm/heavy as well as fine dexterity.
Must be able to prioritize and use good judgment; must be able to coordinate a variety of issues while being frequently interrupted.
This job may have intermittent exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to infectious diseases. The typical noise level for this position is moderate.

Responsibilities

Knowledge of HA manufacturers and supplies.
Knowledge of properly connecting HA devices to Noah file wireless vs wired.
Knowledge of basic HA troubleshooting. (i.e.: cleaning, changing domes, receivers, filters, dehumidifying)
Ability to use MedRX suction and dehumidifier properly.
Ability to explain how to work the hearing aid. (i.e. insertion, volume control), and connect to smart phone. (All manufacturers)
Knowledge of proper infection control steps with cleaning equipment and the exam room following an appointment.
Able to discriminate the different immittance tips, probe tubes, and insert earphones for the audiology equipment.
Instruction and demonstration of otoscopy and immittance procedures.
Knowledge of proper use of Verifit test box and ability to complete specifications testing.
Maintaining New patient orders and repair holds.
Complete monthly reports on appointments and referrals and tracking of the clinic & hearing aid supplies.
Schedules and monitors patient appointments; may coordinate routine office like activities and administrative functions with supplemental staff of the clinic.
May be required to work additional hours to maintain patient care. Floats to other clinics to meet patient care needs during staffing shortages.
Shipping and receiving hearing aid orders and supplies. Original invoice copies stamped and forwarded to Clinical Administration staff for payment processing. Updating new hearing aid orders and repairs in new software program - BluePrint.
Answering phone calls promptly and courteously
Ensuring all patient rooms are fully stocked. Supplies ordered as needed. Orders require obtaining a quote from the manufacturer/distributor/vendor and submission to Clinical Administrative staff for procurement processing.
Scheduling patient appointments in Altera: those being seen in the clinic and referrals. Patients are called to confirm their appointments the day before.
Processing of repairs and new hearing aid orders. Repairs that are reprogrammed with the patient user settings can be given to the patient. Repairs and loss and damage replacement devices that require programming are processed and put into the bins in the green cabinet for the Audiologist to manage.
Ensure proper PPE is always worn while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield.
Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (see CDC website for most current updates)
Completes all electronic health record entries accurately and timely pertinent to patient care role.
Participates in departmental workflow and or testing teams as related to electronic health record or other project initiatives.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
