About The Position

This is a Full Time, Selected Exempt Service Position within the Division of Medical Quality Assurance, Bureau of Health Care Practitioner Regulation, Board of Nursing. The position is primarily responsible for supervisory duties, including managing, motivating, training, and evaluating employees. The incumbent has the authority to make hiring and disciplinary recommendations. Key responsibilities include developing performance expectations, conducting regular performance reviews, managing schedules to ensure coverage, and completing timesheets. The role also involves supervising Regulatory Specialists who review applications for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses and Multistate Upgrades, monitoring staff performance, approving leave and timesheets, and arbitrating personnel matters. The incumbent assists the Program Operations Administrator in managing the License Unit's daily operations and is expected to embody and promote the agency's core values and the Department's mission. Additional duties include reviewing and auditing database reports for statutory compliance, monitoring staff feedback, approving refund requests, handling escalated licensee inquiries, planning workloads and objectives, providing constructive feedback, and assisting staff with complex background reports and the interpretation of laws and rules. The position also involves implementing laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to licensure functions and providing input on regulatory changes. Monthly meetings with direct reports are required to provide constructive feedback, with follow-up emails for performance or behavior issues and implementation of corrective action when necessary. Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees.

  • Hiring, transferring, suspending, laying off, recalling, promoting, discharging, assigning, rewarding, or disciplining subordinate employees or effectively recommending such action.
  • Developing performance expectations, meeting with staff regularly to discuss performance, completing performance reviews, maintaining vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and completing timesheets.
  • Supervising direct reports including motivating, training, providing guidance, and direction.

  • Monitoring the behavior and performance for staff and completing evaluations by established deadlines, planning, and directing their workload, approving requests for leave, approving timesheets, and serving as an arbitrator for personnel matters.
  • Assisting the Program Operations Administrator in managing the day-to-day operation of the License Unit.
  • Demonstrating, modeling, and reinforcing the agency's fundamental values of innovation, collaboration, accountability, responsiveness, and excellence and promoting the Department's mission.
  • Reviewing and auditing database reports to ensure applications meet the 30/90-day statutory requirement.
  • Monitoring staff feedback email responses.
  • Reviewing and approving refund requests within 7 days of receipt.
  • Handling escalated calls by providing personal guidance to licensees with more complex and technical inquiries regarding licensure, discipline and/or renewal issues.
  • Planning the workloads, workflows, deadlines, and work objectives of employees and ensuring they have the appropriate training, tools and authority to meet those objectives.
  • Providing regular constructive feedback and taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Assisting staff with the review of complex background reports, ensuring staff is knowledgeable of the statutes and rules governing licensure of the Nursing professions and assisting staff with the appropriate application and interpretation of laws and rules.
  • Conducting staff performance appraisals; approving leave, participating in recruitment and taking disciplinary action or recommending such actions.
  • Assisting administrator in the implementation of laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to licensure functions and activities, and providing input in regard to regulatory changes.
  • Meeting monthly with each of their direct reports to provide constructive feedback, including where the employee is currently with meeting evaluation criteria.
  • Following up any feedback given to an employee about performance or behavior problems with an email to the staff person recapping the discussion.
  • Implementing corrective action when necessary.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
