About The Position

This is professional work reviewing environmental resource permit applications and/or enforcing rules and regulations pertaining to environmental protection. The role involves reviewing environmental aspects of permit applications, conducting site inspections, preparing technical reports, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, ecology, botany, environmental science, or a closely related field.
  • Valid State of Florida Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews the environmental portion of smaller and/or more straightforward applications for Environmental Resource Permits (ERPs) and Sovereign Submerged Lands (SSL) authorizations.
  • Performs wetland delineations; applies the Uniform Mitigation Assessment Method (UMAM); conducts site inspections for environmental assessments; reviews construction plans, mitigation plans, and environmental data.
  • Prepares technical staff reports and letters; conducts pre-application meetings and meetings during the review process to assist consultants and applicants.
  • Coordinates the review of projects with other review team members and the supervising regulatory scientist.
  • Performs environmental assessments using aerial photographs, vegetation, soils and other environmental data.
  • Documents project actions, activities, and pertinent information in e-Reg.
  • Communicates regularly with supervisor on projects with heightened concern.
  • Conducts compliance activities on smaller and/or more straightforward Environmental Resource Permits.
  • Conducts periodic site inspections during and upon completion of project construction/implementation to monitor environmental conditions.
  • Evaluates compliance submittals; reviews and evaluates monitoring reports; evaluates the progress of wetland mitigation areas.
  • Responds to complaints and public information requests pertaining to rule violations and wetland impacts.
  • Facilitates resolutions to non-compliance issues; performs permit determinations.
  • Writes technical reports and enforcement actions; reviews legal documents and coordinates with legal staff.
  • Coordinates with other compliance team members and supervisors.
  • Documents compliance actions, activities, and pertinent information in e-Reg.
