About The Position

Copperhead Environmental Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Regulatory/Environmental Scientist III to join their growing team. This is a full-time, exempt, salaried, hybrid position based in Asheville, NC. The role is dedicated to supporting a specific long-term project, with opportunities to work on other projects. Responsibilities include collaborating with the Project Manager on client requests, project scope, and monitoring progress and deadlines. The position involves contributing to National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents and regulatory processes, directing and participating in fieldwork, analyzing environmental data, and preparing environmental and regulatory reports. Candidates must pass a background check, possess a valid driver's license, and may be subject to post-employment fit-for-duty drug testing based on project requirements.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in natural resources management, ecology, environmental science, or similar field.
  • Minimum 8+ years’ experience in scientific investigation, policy, and communication or a combination of graduate degree and professional work experience
  • Experience with state and federal agencies (e.g., USFWS, EPA, BLM, NPS, USACE, USFS), their regulations, and the resources they manage.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, legislation, and regulations (e.g., CWA, ESA, NHPA, CERCLA).
  • Experience managing or contributing to regulatory or environmental documents, preparing environmental studies, analyzing environmental data, and assisting in natural resource management activities.
  • Experience assisting clients with their environmental permitting needs including state environmental reviews, site characterization studies, and agency coordination.
  • Experience facilitating project meetings and public meetings, coordinating staff capacity, and maintaining project schedules.
  • Cultivating relationships with key agency stakeholders, local land managers, and agency representatives.
  • Must be a proactive communicator.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Must be able to thrive in a self-directed environment.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license in good standing.

Responsibilities

  • Contributing to NEPA, regulatory, and scientific projects through collaboration with the Project Manager and team members
  • Preparing environmental studies
  • Overseeing public comment analysis processes
  • Analyzing environmental data, including chemical contaminants
  • Assisting in natural resource management activities
  • Assisting clients with environmental permitting needs
  • Facilitating project meetings and general project management/oversight - travel may be required
  • Coordinating staff capacity and maintaining project schedules and deadlines
