About The Position

The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation is responsible for policies, legislation, regulations, programs, and services that enable Alberta’s agriculture and food sectors to flourish and contribute to Alberta’s economic growth. The ministry’s role is diverse, ranging from food safety and industry growth and diversification to increasing investment and supporting growth in rural Alberta. The ministry also supports foundational programs like irrigation and agricultural societies that help create strong rural communities and resilient agriculture sectors. Rooted in the Animal Health and Assurance Branch, the Inspection and Investigation Section is responsible for the oversight and administration of the Feeder Associations Loan Guarantee Program (FALGP). This legislated program provides up to $225 million in provincial loan guarantees, supporting more than $1.5 billion in annual lending to feeder association members across Alberta. The team plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, effective delivery, and ongoing oversight of this vital provincial program.

Requirements

  • University graduation in a related field such as Regulatory Compliance, Financial Audit, Criminal or Civil Law, Investigation or a related field.
  • 2 years of experience such as law enforcement, bi-law officer, court writing, regulatory compliance, and inspection programs, or related.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s licence.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of the Feeder Associations Loan Guarantee Program or similar regulated programs and understanding of compliance-based inspection or oversight models.
  • Experience working in a regulatory or financial environment.
  • Previous regulatory oversight or law enforcement experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulation and Compliance Principles of Alberta Agriculture.
  • Strong analytical skills, particularly in reviewing financial and operational documentation.
  • Banking knowledge, specifically to loans, credit approvals and bank audits would be an asset.
  • Experience preparing briefing materials, reports, and recommendations.
  • Strong proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and managing complex documentation.
  • Agricultural background, understanding livestock.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the use of provincial loan guarantees and prepare analysis, summaries, and recommendations.
  • Support the scheduling, tracking, and follow-up of feeder association inspections.
  • Coordinate and process documentation related to guarantee allocations, agreements, and financial statements.
  • Identify risks or non-compliance issues and recommend actions to mitigate them.
  • Maintain and develop program tools, templates, and reference materials.
  • Provide administrative support, including tracking livestock purchases, inspection results, and compliance indicators.
