About The Position

This role involves assisting with office-based procedures in an OBGYN setting, adhering to aseptic techniques, and managing instruments and specimens. The Medical Assistant will also perform disinfection procedures, point-of-care (POC) testing, and enter orders into the computer system. Responsibilities include rooming patients, preparing exam/procedure rooms, taking vital signs, administering a limited number of medications, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing equipment, and maintaining examination rooms. The Medical Assistant will support physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) during procedures, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and privacy. A strong understanding of sterile technique and infection control is essential. The role also includes chaperoning intimate examinations and performing accurate POC testing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Successful completion of orientation and competency validation for independently preparing for and assisting with all Department specific procedures and POC testing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with office-based procedures following aseptic technique.
  • Hand off instruments during procedures.
  • Assist with obtaining, labeling, and sending specimens.
  • Perform low and high-level disinfection procedures.
  • Perform POC testing.
  • Enter orders into the computer system.
  • Room patients.
  • Set up exam/procedure rooms.
  • Take vital signs.
  • Administer a limited number of medications per Emory Clinic approved policy.
  • Perform simple diagnostic tests.
  • Collect specimens.
  • Draw blood.
  • Sterilize and clean equipment.
  • Maintain examination rooms.
  • Assist physicians and APPs with patients, equipment preparation, aseptic technique, and surgical procedures.
  • Prepare the exam/procedure room by assembling routine supplies, materials, instruments, and equipment.
  • Obtain special supplies indicated by the physician.
  • Care for and handle instruments and equipment.
  • Assist in the preparation, transportation, and positioning of patients for procedures.
  • Provide for the physical comfort, safety, and privacy of the patient during procedures.
  • Observe patient for possible symptoms indicating a change in condition and report to the appropriate medical team member.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of sterile technique and infection control principles.
  • Practice appropriate procedures to maintain a sterile environment.
  • Chaperone and assist for every patient intimate examination.
  • Perform accurate POC testing.
