OBGYN Medical Asst Proceduralist / MA
About The Position
This role involves assisting with office-based procedures in an OBGYN setting, adhering to aseptic techniques. Responsibilities include handling instruments, managing specimens, performing disinfection, conducting point-of-care (POC) testing, and entering orders. The Medical Assistant will also room patients, prepare exam/procedure rooms, and perform routine clinical duties such as taking vital signs, administering limited medications, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing equipment, and maintaining examination rooms. The position requires assisting physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) with patient care, equipment preparation, sterile techniques, and surgical procedures. This includes preparing rooms with necessary supplies, materials, instruments, and equipment, and ensuring the proper care and handling of all instruments and equipment. The role also involves assisting with patient preparation, transportation, and positioning, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and privacy during procedures. The Medical Assistant will observe patients for any changes in condition and report them to the medical team. A strong understanding of sterile technique and infection control principles is essential. The role includes chaperoning and assisting with intimate patient examinations and performing accurate POC testing.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Basic computer skills required
- One year work experience preferred
- Current Medical Assistant Certification in one of the following: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
- Current AHA BLS certification is required for hire and must be renewed throughout employment
- Must successfully complete all medical assistant orientation and training requirements including certification and annual skills competency
Responsibilities
- Assist with office based procedures following aseptic technique
- Hand off instruments
- Assist with obtaining, labeling and sending specimens
- Perform low and high level disinfection procedures
- Perform POC testing
- Enter orders into computer
- Room patients
- Set up exam/ procedure rooms
- Perform routine and more complex medical assistant clinical duties
- Take vital signs
- Administer a limited number of medication per Emory Clinic approved policy
- Perform simple diagnostic tests
- Collect specimens

- Sterilize and clean equipment
- Maintain examination rooms in an outpatient care setting
- Assist physicians and APP's with patients, equipment preparation, aseptic technique and surgical procedures in the exam/procedure room
- Prepare the exam/ procedure room by assembling routine supplies, materials, instruments and equipment
- Obtain special supplies indicated by physician
- Care and handling of instruments and equipment
- Assist in the preparation, transportation, and positioning of patients for the procedure
- Provide for the physical comfort, safety, and privacy of the patient during the procedure
- Observe patient for possible symptoms which may indicate a change in condition and reports to appropriate member of medical team for immediate action
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the principles of sterile technique and infection control
- Practice appropriate procedures to maintain a sterile environment
- Chaperone and assist for every patient intimate examination
- Perform accurate POC testing
