About The Position

The Registration Representative (Patient Financial Specialist I) at Mount Carmel East ED ensures the collection of accurate and complete registration/admission information and completion of required forms for all patients. This role is responsible for collecting patient deductibles, co-pays, coinsurance, and deposits. The representative gathers and evaluates confidential patient financial data to determine qualification for financial assistance and patient financial responsibility. They also collect payments, facilitate the resolution of billing questions, and serve as an information resource to other departments and physician offices. A key aspect of this role involves understanding the relationship between diagnosis and procedure using CPT and ICD-9 coding to ensure compliance with third-party regulations, including Medicare and Medicaid. The representative must adhere to all pertinent legislation regarding the use and disclosure of medical and financial information, debt collection, and credit reporting. Additionally, they establish payment arrangements for patients and evaluate past account history, all while upholding the department's Service vision.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Demonstrated experience may be used in lieu of degree.
  • Must be available full time during the first 2 weeks for training: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree in HealthCare Administration, Business Administration or related field.
  • Minimum of three years experience in a physician's office, clinic, hospital business office, financial service setting, or related area dealing with the public in collection of data and funds.
